Cardboard Boxes

Cardboard boxes are used for a variety of packaging, storing and shipping applications. The boxes are supplied by manufacturers in bulk, flattened shapes, but they are fully stapled, glued or bonded. To use them, you just have to fold them into the right shape. Cardboard boxes are classified by various characteristics or properties such as: their size, their thickness, the weight they can carry, and their crushing strength.

There are various types of cardboard boxes that are used all over the world. These include: heavy duty boxes, pads, easy-fold mailers, storage bins, storage file boxes, computer boxes, side loaders, and moving boxes, etc. There are also various styles or designs of cardboard boxes that are available such as: cube boxes, multi-depth boxes, flat boxes, long boxes, tall boxes, telescopic tall boxes, large side loaders and easy seal side loaders. The most common type of cardboard box is the regular slotted container, which has two ends, four flaps per end. The flaps meet in the center and are sealed together. Some other common types of cardboard boxes include: five panel folder, full-overlap, and flat boxes called mailers. Cardboard boxes can be printed on and laminated in various colors.

Cardboard is a man made paper product that is made out of unbleached craft paper, which has two heavy outer layers and a fluted, wavy inner layer to provide cushioning strength. Cardboard is biodegradable and also recyclable, so it is environment friendly. The material makes ideal boxes as it is very stiff and durable. The first commercial cardboard box was manufactured in England in 1817.

Cardboard boxes are generally used to pack a variety of light weight objects in such as: medicines, toys, books, stationary, food stuffs, plastic components, small assemblies, electronic components, white goods such as TVs, refrigerators, microwave ovens, sound systems, electrical bulbs, healthcare products, bottles and computers, etc. Cardboard boxes are commonly used to contain food items such as breakfast cereals, and they are also used as gift boxes. However, this type of cardboard is often referred to as chipboard as it consists of only one layer. They can also be stacked on top of each other up to a certain height and can be placed in packaging and conveyor systems for automatic filling.
