Screw Machine Products

Screws are made in machine shops called screw machine shops that offer specialized industrial services. These include manufacturing and manipulating screws and other small industrial supplies and fasteners such as include as nuts and bolts, axles, bushings, connectors, cores, fittings, gears, handles, knobs, inserts, pins, rivets, rollers, spacers, studs, and washers. Screw machine shops need to have specialized equipment to make these products and to do procedures such as gauging, inspection, testing, heat treatment, tool grinding, drafting, and CAD systems.

Screw machines are devices that are designed to manufacture a number of products in a short amount of time. An automatic screw machine is basically an automatic lathe which is capable of working at a very high speed. Screw machines can perform various types of tasks such as milling, drilling, tapping, turning, threading, burring, counter-boring and broaching.

There are different types of screw forming, machining processes and machine tools like: turning, automat turning, CNC turning, lead screw generation machines, flank grinding machines, helical tooth grinding machines, worm grinding machines, knurling, etc. These are chip-forming machines and the shop setup will depend on the class and accuracy of screws that are machined. Shops that produce lead and ball screws need to have very skilled manpower and accurate machines. Equally important is the helical and lead measuring instruments with good quality control personnel. Some shops have in-house heat treatment facilities that offer case hardening, stress relieving, annealing and other operations.

Other types of machines that are employed are thread-rolling machines and press machines for heading and slotting. Suitable demagnetizing machines, a hardness-testing unit, crack testing equipment and equipment to test the chemical composition, like spectrograph instruments are also needed, but these operations can be outsourced.

Screw machine products are used for many types of industrial, commercial and domestic applications. You will rarely find a home or an office that doesn’t have a screw machine product in it. The most common screw machine products are generally items such as nuts, bolts, and screws that are used as fasteners. These products are so common throughout the world and this is what makes screw machine shops so important. Screw machine products may be made out of many types of material such as copper, alloys, plastics, titanium and aluminum and are invaluable to the manufacturing process.
