Plastic is a product that is used extensively in industrial applications because of its anti-corrosion properties, its durability, its versatility, its low cost, its chemical resistance, its insulating properties, and its flexibility, etc. Plastic materials refer to the entire range of plastic and its various compounds that are used in a wide variety of industrial processes. Plastic materials can be bought in many different forms such as sheets, rods, tubes, film, pellets, and other forms.

These plastic compounds are used in a variety of industrial applications, such as the insulation of electrical fittings. Closed cell foams are used to enhance insulation performance. Nylon vacuum castings are used as medical semiconductors. Foam, plastic, and thermoplastic tapes are used extensively in medical and cryogenic applications. Insulated angles and channels are also effectively used in products like corrugated and fiberglass boards.

Plastic materials are made up of polymers and resins and therefore they can be made into different forms. Some plastics can be rubbery, bendable and flexible while other plastics can be very hard, brittle and breakable. There are basically two types of plastic which are thermoplastics and thermosets. Thermoplastics are designed to be melted and reformed numerous times and are easy to recycle. On the other hand, thermosets can’t be melted down again once they are formed.

Plastic materials are used in just about every process of the industrial world including, pre production, production, packaging, storage, and shipping. There are many different types of plastic items that are used such as plastic bags, plastic tubing, plastic tanks, plastic drums, plastic containers, plastic bottles, and plastic extrusions. Plastic materials are also commonly used in the medical field, in laboratories and in the retail and commercial sectors.

Plastic materials are also used in other fashions such as in primary processing equipments, supply chain products and processing additives. Since plastic can create a variety of complex organic compounds by the process of polymerization, it can be custom designed for special industrial applications. Plastics can be molded into many shapes, sizes and colors by various types of processes such as injection molding. Some common plastic compounds are polyester, nylon, Teflon, etc.
