Perforated Metals

Perforated metals are used in many types of applications in the industrial sector. These metals are used extensively in the building, agricultural, food processing and engineering sectors. Metals which are perforated need to be highly ductile and malleable. Metals can be perforated into a variety of patterns such as round, square, slotted and other decorative designs. A round shaped perforation is the most common one used in industrial applications.

Metals can be perforated by high speed punching machines. In general, hole patterns are available in two ways, either with perforations in a straight line or perforations staggered. These punching machines operate very quickly and therefore a high degree of accuracy is needed while operating them. The perforations are made by punching dies through sheets or coils of metal. The shape of the die will determine the shape and the size of the perforation. Perforated metal can be made with standard perforations and standard dies, however you can also custom make it.

There are various standard sheet sizes of metal used with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum being among the most popular types of metals. You can also treat the metal to make it more durable. Many people galvanize it so it can withstand all types of weather.

Perforated metals are used in many different ways such as partitions and racks and metal sheets are often used for security and flooring systems. Perforated metal is also used to make up part of acoustical panels and vents. Perforated metals are lightweight, economical, attractive and easily customized. These metals can be stocked in a variety of patterns and gauges. Some other applications in which these metals are used extensively are light fixtures, architectural accents, strainers, and filters, etc.

Round hole perforations are available in assorted hole sizes and perforated metals that have round holes are generally used for ventilation, decoration, and security purposes. Hexagonal hole patterns are primarily used in architectural design. Perforated metal is also used for decorative purposes and decorative metals are available in an assortment of patterns. This type of perforated metal is commonly used to make things such as furniture, walls, backgrounds, and cabinets. Perforated metal that has slotted hole patterns are used for trying to sort and grade solids and are used for decorative purposes.
